Assistive Web Technology Laboratory

Picture of the ribbon cutting at the grand opening -- dlink coming soon

The HTML Writers Guild's Assistive Web Technology Laboratory (AWTLab) was established in June 1999 as a resource for web authors under the auspices of the Guild's Accessible Web Authoring Resources & Education (AWARE) Center. The purpose of the AWTLab is to provide Guild members with hands-on demonstrations of the types of technology used by web surfers with disabilities -- such as screen readers and voice browsers used by visually impaired web users. Through exposure to this software and hardware, web creators can learn what's necessary to create pages that work for EVERYONE, regardless of disability!

The AWTLab is located at the Guild's offices in Fullerton, Orange County, California, and is co-hosted by Idyll Mountain Internet. The grand opening of the lab was held on June 8, 1999 and drew a broad cross-section of local business and education leaders, high tech industry representatives, representatives of other disability assistive technology centers, and members of the HTML Writers Guild. More pictures and guest list will be posted soon!

If you are a member of the HTML Writers Guild -- and are near our Southern California offices -- these computers are YOURS to use. To schedule an introduction session at the AWTLab, please send email to aware@hwg.org, or call the Guild's office at (714) 526-4963. Current hours are by appointment only, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
